Investment Team

Chris Beall , Managing Director

Mr. Beall joined the Highstar Team in 2004 and has over 10 years of experience in private equity, investment banking and finance principally in the energy sectors.  Mr. Beall was a member of the Highstar investment teams for Utilities, Inc., North East Waste Services and Advanced Disposal Services, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of InterGen and Star Atlantic (which includes Highstar’s investments in Interstate Waste Services and Advanced Disposal Services).  Mr. Beall’s previous experience includes work in the Global Natural Resources Group at Lehman Brothers, Inc., and work in operations and engineering at Koch Gateway Pipeline Company, a natural gas transmission pipeline owned by Koch Industries, Inc.  Mr. Beall received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and an MBA degree from Harvard University.
Aaron Gold , Managing Director

Mr. Gold joined the Highstar Team in 2001 and has over 12 years experience in private equity, investment banking and finance.  Mr. Gold was a member of the Highstar investment teams for Southern Star Central, SkyBitz, Advanced Disposal Services, North East Waste Services, Ports America and MTC Holdings.  Mr. Gold was also responsible for managing Highstar’s investments in TransCore and Tensar.   Currently, he is the Chief Financial Officer of HarborCorp (which includes Highstar’s investments in Ports America, MTC Holdings and AMPORTS) and sits on the Board of Directors for Ports America and MTC Holdings.  Prior to joining Highstar, Mr. Gold was with Primedia Corporation.  Mr. Gold also worked at Patricof & Co. Capital Corp. and was in the Financial Buyers Group at Bear Stearns.  Mr. Gold received an AB degree, cum laude in Politics, from Princeton University and an MBA degree from New York University.
Hayden Horowitz , Managing Director & Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Horowitz joined the Highstar Team in 2006 and has over nine years of experience in private equity, investment banking and finance, principally with respect to financial control and reporting.  Mr. Horowitz is responsible for managing fund audits, tax preparation, and general fund reporting for Highstar and its investment vehicles, as well as managing the financial operations for the Fund.  Most recently, Mr. Horowitz served as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer for the re-election campaign of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.  Previously, he served as the CFO to the NYC Host Committee for the 2004 Republican National Convention.  Mr. Horowitz also worked at Geller & Company, Salomon Smith Barney and for the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division.  He received a BA in History from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD and MBA degree from Columbia University.
Scott Litman , Managing Director & General Counsel

Mr. Litman joined AIG Investments in 2003 and the Highstar Team in 2005.  Mr. Litman has over 10 years of experience as an attorney, working primarily in private equity, mergers and acquisitions and finance.  Mr. Litman is responsible for managing the legal work relating to Highstar’s fund administration and investment activity.  In this capacity, Mr. Litman has been a member of the deal teams for many of the Highstar II and Highstar III portfolio company acquisitions as well as many of the Highstar I and Highstar II divestitures.  Prior to joining Highstar, Mr. Litman worked primarily on a variety of private equity, derivatives and non-performing loan matters for AIG Investments after arriving from Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker, LLP, where he spent five years as an attorney in the corporate and finance groups.  Mr. Litman received a BA degree, cum laude with General Honors, in History and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD degree with a concentration in Business Law and Regulation from Cornell Law School.  Mr. Litman is admitted to practice law in New York; and is a member of the New York State and City Bar Associations.
Andrew Nevin , Managing Director

Mr. Nevin joined the Highstar Team in 2007 and has over 10 years of experience in private equity, investment banking and finance.  In addition to serving as an investment professional at Highstar, Mr. Nevin is also a member of the Board of Directors for AMPORTS and Utilities, Inc. and heads Highstar’s business development initiatives.  Prior to Highstar, Mr. Nevin was a Vice President at The Cypress Group, a multi-billion dollar private equity fund based in New York City, where he worked on a range of leveraged buyouts of industrial businesses.  From 1999 to 2006, he worked at Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity engaged in leveraged and growth equity transactions within a broad range of industries including general manufacturing, business services and energy.  Mr. Nevin began his career in 1997 as a financial analyst in the consumer products group of Merrill Lynch & Co.  He received a BA in economics from Williams College.
James Burchetta , Principal & Deputy General Counsel

Mr. Burchetta joined the Highstar Team in 2006 and has over eight years of experience as an attorney in private equity, securities, mergers and acquisitions and finance.  He serves as Highstar’s Chief Administrative Officer and Deputy General Counsel primarily focusing on Highstar portfolio company acquisitions.  In his capacity as Deputy General Counsel, Mr. Burchetta was a member of the investment team for HarborCorp (which includes Highstar’s investments in Ports America, MTC Holdings and AMPORTS).  Prior to joining Highstar, Mr. Burchetta worked for AIG as the Division Counsel of the AIG Mergers & Acquisition Insurance Group and was a corporate associate for Paul Hastings in New York.  Mr. Burchetta received a BS degree in Communications from Boston College and his JD degree from Fordham University School of Law School.  Mr. Burchetta is admitted to practice law in New York; and is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
Jared Parker , Principal

Mr. Parker joined the Highstar Team in 2005.  Mr. Parker was a member of the Highstar investment teams for Northern Star Generation and InterGen and is currently a member of the investment team for HarborCorp (which includes Highstar’s investments in Ports America, MTC Holdings and AMPORTS).  Mr. Parker is a member of the Board of Directors for AMPORTS and the advisory board for HarborCorp.  Prior to joining Highstar, Mr. Parker worked with the Highstar Team on several transactions as an M&A advisor at Deutsche Bank.  While at Deutsche Bank, Mr. Parker was an investment banking analyst where he worked with domestic and international power generation companies and financial sponsors advising on mergers and acquisitions focusing on valuation, due diligence, strategic advice and acquisition financing.  He holds a BA from Stanford University.
Robert Wholey , Principal

Mr. Wholey joined the Highstar Team in 2005 and has over 7 years of experience in private equity, investment banking and finance.  Mr. Wholey is on the investment teams for Star Atlantic (which includes Highstar’s investments in Interstate Waste Services and Advanced Disposal Services) and Knight Holdco.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of Star Atlantic.  Previously, Mr. Wholey was an associate in the Global Energy Group of UBS, which he joined in 2001.  While at UBS, Mr. Wholey was involved in the advisory of companies in the midstream energy, exploration and production and oilfield services sectors.  He holds a BS in Business Administration from Babson College.
Nancy Noto , Vice President & Controller

Ms. Noto joined the Highstar Team in 2006 and has over nine years of experience in accounting, financial control and reporting.  Previously, Ms. Noto was an assistant vice president in the Alternative Investments department of Credit Suisse.  From 1998 to 2001, Ms. Noto was an auditor at KPMG LLP in Stamford, CT and New York City.  Ms. Noto received a B.S. in accounting from Saint Michael's College.
David Elizondo , Associate

Mr. Elizondo joined the Highstar Team in 2007.  He is a member of the investment teams for Star Atlantic (which includes Highstar’s investments in Interstate Waste Services and Advanced Disposal Services) and HarborCorp (which includes Highstar’s investments in Ports America, MTC Holdings and AMPORTS).  Prior to joining Highstar, Mr. Elizondo was an analyst in the Leveraged Finance group of Barclays Capital. While at Barclays, Mr. Elizondo specialized on valuation analysis, due diligence and acquisition financing structure and execution for financial sponsors within the infrastructure and power generation sectors.  Mr. Elizondo holds a BA in Engineering and Economics from Dartmouth College.
Steve Gudovic , Associate

Mr. Gudovic joined the Highstar Team in 2006.  Mr. Gudovic is on the investment teams for Utilities, Inc. and HarborCorp (which includes Highstar’s investments in Ports America, MTC Holdings and AMPORTS).  Prior to joining Highstar, Mr. Gudovic was an investment banking analyst in the Global Utilities Group of UBS.   While at UBS, Mr. Gudovic worked on public and private debt and equity offerings, as well as mergers and acquisitions in the power generation and utilities sectors.  He holds a BA from Northwestern University.
Nehemias Lorico , Associate & Assistant Controller

Mr. Lorico joined the Highstar Team in September 2007 and has over 10 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting.  Prior to joining Highstar, Mr. Lorico was at Veronis Suhler Stevenson, a media focused private equity firm.  Prior to VSS, Mr. Lorico was an auditor for Eisner, LLP and then BDO Seidman, LLP where he focused primarily on financial audits of investment partnerships.  Mr. Lorico holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University at Albany and a CPA designation.
Tim Reynolds , Associate

Mr. Reynolds joined the Highstar Team in 2008.  Prior to joining Highstar, he worked for McKinsey and Co. on the strategic reorganization of a $150+ billion petroleum company. Previously, Mr. Reynolds was an Associate Director in the National Economic Council at the White House where he assisted in the development and rollout of economic policies such as the President’s Advanced Energy Initiative and Social Security reform. Before that, he served as an assistant to the President’s Chief of Staff and provided research support for the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the organization of the 2006 G8 Summit. Mr. Reynolds earned his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and his BSBA from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Brent Tasugi , Associate

Mr. Tasugi joined the Highstar Team in 2008. Prior to joining Highstar, Mr. Tasugi was an Associate at The Carlyle Group, a global multi-billion dollar private equity firm headquartered in Washington, DC, where he helped evaluate and execute leveraged buyout investments in the automotive, transportation and logistics sectors. Prior to that, he served as an Analyst in the Financial Sponsors and Global Real Estate groups of Morgan Stanley, where assisted in structuring leverage buyout transactions and principal equity investments across a broad range of industries including automotive, business services, energy, industrials, logistics and lodging. Mr. Tasugi received his B.S. in economics with concentrations in finance and management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
John Van Benschoten , Associate

Mr. Van Benschoten joined the Highstar Team in 2008. Prior to joining Highstar, he was an Associate at JLL Partners, Inc., a middle-market private equity fund based in New York City where he focused on leveraged and growth equity investments in the financial services, building products, and business services sectors. Before that, Mr. Van Benschoten was an analyst in the acquisition finance group at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. where he worked with companies and financial sponsors across a range of industries. He received a BS in International Affairs from Georgetown University.
Adam Weingarten , Associate

Mr. Weingarten joined the Highstar Team in 2006.  Mr. Weingarten was a member of the investment team for Northern Star Generation and AMPORTS and is currently a member of the investment team for InterGen.  Prior to joining Highstar, Mr. Weingarten was a member of Banc of America Securities' Leveraged Acquisition Finance Group and Credit Suisse’s Real Estate Finance and Securitization Group.  While at Banc of America Securities, Mr. Weingarten specialized in structuring and executing leveraged and management buyouts within various industries.  He focused on valuation, due diligence and acquisition financing for sponsor-related and corporate acquisition transactions.  Mr. Weingarten holds a BBA from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business.
