The Highstar Team believes that infrastructure businesses and assets are a compelling asset class where Highstar can earn superior private equity returns.  In particular, energy, transportation, waste management and water, sectors in which Highstar has successfully invested capital, are likely to remain very attractive investment opportunities as follows:

Energy:  The Highstar Team has significant investment and operational experience in the energy sector.     Highstar believes that strong long-term growth in demand for energy combined with structural trends such as deregulation will create opportunities to deploy capital in the energy sector at attractive risk-adjusted rates of return.

Transportation:  The transportation sector includes ports, terminal and inter-modal operations, surface transportation, logistics companies and other service providers to the transportation sector.  As economies grow worldwide, many opportunities exist for substantial private investment in the expansion and renovation of transportation infrastructure.

  

Waste Management:  The solid waste services industry includes collection, transfer and disposal services for commercial, industrial and residential customers.  Highstar believes that declining landfill capacity in certain markets combined with the current divestiture programs of several of the major industry players should create attractive acquisition opportunities.

Water:  The water sector includes water and waste water utilities, as well as related treatment and services businesses. Water infrastructure is vital and essential infrastructure.  The sector's stable cash flows, combined with its need for capital improvement and expansion, make it an attractive sector for private investment.
